This bass is an excellent entry-level EUB - It doesn't have any frills, a simple preamp (volume only), and it sounds similar to a double bass when amplified well. Definetly not bowable - The fingerboard is much too flat. Speaking of the fingerboard, it appears to be maple and not ebony, it's probably 'ebonized hardwood'. I've had mine for a few weeks and the fingerboard is starting to lose it's colour. I use flatwound electric bass strings, since I read that halfwound and other electric bass strings will develop grooves into the fingerboard. All in all, it's a good bass for beginning EUB users, and fretless/fretted bass guitar users going to double bass.
