I Think not, because in due time you'll use a different kind of finger setting for UB. At first I didn't, and I kept on playing my UB like my Music Man & others, but after some years I started to play what seems to be the 'official' way: four fingers for three positions when I'm playing (non-solo) low on the neck. The ring finger is supporting the pink (smallest finger, I don't know the right word), while the ring finger is the weakest finger anyway. Why I changed it? Simply for 'tone'. I do a lot of acoustic performances (no drums), so I have to work really hard for a groove.
