Help on difference between UB & EUB???  27 Nov 2001 22:03 GMT   [#200: IfJXYWt3GY]
From: ALEXANDRE TORRES PORRES <atporres -at- ig.com.br>
Hi there, I play the eletric bass, and I live in Brazil!

EUBs are not popular here, so I don´t know where to find information, and I´m not familiar with the technical vocabulary in English, so I couldn´t learn much over the net.

I was hoping someone out there could help me in very easy terms the difference in sound and timbre between the Upright Bass and the Eletric Upright Bass, and the advantages and disadvanages of both.

First of all, Upright Bass and double bass are the same thing, right?

I´d like to start learning the Upright Bass, mostly because I want to learn the bowing technique, and the only EUB I´ve ever seen, according to the seller, was not made for that, he said it was for jazz fingering purposes.

Can anyone tell me why is that? Can I get an EUB designed for bowing with the same sound as an acoustic double bass? What´s the difference between EUB that are designed for jazz fingering, and the ones for bowing? Is there a big advantage in getting an EUB for bowing? Or should I get an acoustic one?

Thanks a lot to whomever helps me out...

my e-mail; atporres@ig.com.br

Cheers
Alex
