Roland-
I'm seriously considering purchasing the SLB-100. I've played one in Louisville, KY at the IBMA Trade Show. Have narrowed my search down to the Yamaha and a custom-built called the Merchant Bass (Bill Merchant, NYC).
I can only say that, as an upright acoustic player, the feel of the Yamaha is unparallelled in EUB's. Everything else I've tried has the thin piece of steel wire for a hip brace - or some similar concoction - and in my style of Bluegrass, I end up chasing the damn bass around as it slips off my hip, etc. The Yamaha gives me the ability to pull the instrument into the body and hold it there.
Plus, I think it looks more like what I would rather be playing - its just that for gigs requiring air transport, the EUB makes more sense.
Was interested in the other post on this site regarding strings - the seller had installed Picato Innovation nylon cores - wonder where to get them?
