Depends where you put the pickup.
If the top is flat, I'd consider trying to put a Fishman sandwiched between the bridge feet and top, like the Kydd bass.
I'm not sure that an Underwood pickup (in the bridge wings) would work fine though. You'd probably get uneven response; loud tone from the outer strings, and thin tone from the inner strings. (I've experienced this)
The problem may be the bridge.
I think you should get (or make) one with smaller legs, but with regular height in the upper part. (the part with the heart and wings)
